Not everyone is a born networker. Some people take to it quickly and easily, while others find they need more practice. Here at Showcase LA Events, Inc., we ensure that all our team members have the right training and education before they start networking, but some companies don’t prepare their employees so well. If you find that you’re struggling with networking, here are a few tips to help you get started.
Give! Before you can expect to receive anything, you must show that you are willing to give. This way, potential contacts and clients know that you are selfless and dedicated to your industry.
Look beyond networking eventsThese events can be great, and can connect you with a wide range of contacts that you wouldn’t normally get to meet, but they can also be sloppy and unfocused. Take time out to identify a particular company or individual who could benefit your business, and put the effort in to reach out to them.
Think about what you can offer. Many potential contacts will want to know why they should bother spending time getting to know you, so make sure you can tell them exactly what you’ve got to give.
Be frugal with your networking. Most of your time should be spent on sales and with clients, and networking should only take up a small portion of your time. If you’re spending hours a day trying to network, you’re doing it wrong!
Ultimately, it’s important to remember that there is a lot more to networking than social media.
